11/16/08 09:05 am - Civil Marriage is a Civil Right

If you haven't seen it, Andrew Sullivan posted a series entitled A View for Your Protest (scroll down) with recap of several Anti-Prop 8 rallies held on Saturday.

Marriage Equality has pictures from protests all over.

For more pictures check out Join the Impact on Flickr.

There are several write up from various locations at Calitics. (A California politics blog.)

A write up of the protest at Ventura which discuss positive difference between this protest and others.

The Gothamist has a write up and pictures from New York.

The Gist has a write up and pictures from a Wed. night protest against prop 8.

What can I do now?

Join the Impact (which has a new, redesigned web site) asks that everyone try to "Try to engage in one respectful conversation a day in which you can plant the seed of change in an individual who is not like-minded."

A Day Without Gay is calling for December 10th to be a day in which you "call in gay" instead of "calling in sick" and instead donate your time and money to a equality cause. (For those of you who don't know, Dec. 10th is International Human Rights Day.

Blue for Equality would like you to put in a blue bulb on your front porch.

11/15/08 05:49 pm - Third Monday

A lot of you guys volunteered to help out with the ficathon. It now has a comm: [info]third_monday (President's Day is always the third Monday in February) so it's pretty much a go.

What I need help with at this point:

-Someone to make a layout and icon for the comm.
-Someone who would be willing to do some advertising in other comms.
-Someone who would be willing to sit down and help me come up with the rules and regulations.

(Yes, I'll be asking for more help later, I promise.)

As for what's eligible, I've looked at the poll and this is what I think:

Fakenews (The Daily Show and The Colbert Report [including Steve Carell, Paul Dinello and Amy Sedaris], Weekend Update, and Rick Mercer's Report)

Realnews (CNN, MSNBC, NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox)

Polislash (Whitehouse, Whitehouse-elect [including Aaron Sorkin], and Congressional)

West Wing FPF crossovers with any of the previous three fandoms.

If you really want something else included, please let me know that you feel strongly about it in the comments.

11/15/08 10:28 am - Family

This morning, as I prepare to walk out the door and go to the first protest of my adult life, I came across this post: On What Marriage Is and I cried. Simply beautiful. What marriage is, is family. And it isn't law or sex or even tradition, because even family is not about those things. Family goes beyond even love, because even when we hate our family, they are still our family.

11/11/08 03:34 pm - Dear Yuletide Santa

Dear Yuletide Santa,

I've been told I should write a letter to you. This is my second yuletide, but my first attempt at writing a Dear Santa letter, so please bare with me.

ETA: I'll try not to edit this more than 50 times or so, but I may not be able to help myself. May I repeat: SO EXCITED.

First off, thank you! I'm one of those people who loves things written for them, no matter what it is, so even the idea of you writing will keep me happy all winter long!

About Me: I made my loyal minions (hi guys!) ask me questions so that you could learn more about me. You can find them here. (Plus if you give me a day or so, there'll be more about me there as well.)

My General Thoughts on Fanfic:

-I usually like relationships and plot not pwp, but even I can indulge in the porn from time to time. I'll read gen, bob, het, slash, threesomes and moresomes, as well as as solo efforts :)

-I like both the most angsty of all angst and cracky, happy humor.

Major Squicks:
Non-con involving women.
Embarrassment: I mean, I watch The Office with my fingers in my ears while I hum half the time.
Waste: No human waste involved in the porn, or really, anywhere, please.

My Requests:

RPF - Pundits aka News Correspondents (Keith Olbermann, Rachel Maddow, Anderson Cooper)

If you've been looking around my journal, you already know how head over heels I am for these guys and their fakenews friends. Whether it be angsty, crack, or drunken tomfoolery, I shall be happy. I sort of want Anderson/Keith/Rachel (where Anderson is gay, Rachel's a lesbian and Keith is really, really confused), but would be happy with them in any combination or gen.

If Rachel's truck could make an appearance I would be ecstatic.

MI-5 aka Spooks (Adam Carter, Lucas North, Tom Quinn)

I have a thing for Tom/Adam even though they spent one whole episode on television at the same time. I like Tom broken, but healing, and Adam broken, but not healing. I am, in fact, possibly the only person who thinks Adam could have been MORE angsty. SPOILERS THROUGH SEASON 7 )

If you're only comfortable with the earlier seasons, I think Tom/Zoe/Danny post Ellie would be awesome. Or jsut Tom, post Ellie.

Kingdom (Any)

Somehow this show seems to be over looked in fandom at large even though it stars Stephen Fry and Hermione Noris. I mean, what else could you ask for? Plus it's got hyjinks and small town living. I like casefic a lot, maybe some sort of local mystery with hyjinks? Especially if Lyle ends up muddy, wet, in the middle of a food fight or something of the like.

Journeyman (Dan Vasser, Jack Vasser)

I know, I'm probably the only person in what's left of the fandom that wants Jack/Dan, but really, Kevin McKidd and Reed Diamond have some sort of weird chemistry that, in my brain, demands they be slashed. Especially if they can be slashed before Jack believes Dan.

I, however, totally understand if you don't want to write that, and would be happy with any sort of brotherly interaction. Especially if Jack is overprotective and bossy and Jack is stubborn and disappears at inconvenient times.

Thank you again,
Your Yuletidee

11/10/08 09:00 pm - Prop 8 Special Comment

Keith Olbermann just made me cry. His Special Comment was one of the most moving and true things that I've ever heard.

Will ETA the video when I find it.

11/8/08 06:33 pm - Ask Me a Question

Okay. I'm supposed to be writing my letter to my Yuletide Santa and failing miserably. (I keep getting distracted by my Jon and Anderson had an affair in the early nineties and broke up when Anderson wanted kids and Jon didn't - and then they never spoke of it again until Rachel figures it out - epic.)

ANYWAY, for yuletide, it's suggested that you tell your Sanata something about you. Except, I have no idea what to tell my Santa. So, I'm stealing an idea from [info]thefourthvine and having you ask me questions.

This is the deal. You ask me three questions. Any three questions ranging from "What color socks are you wearing?" to "What are the top ten most played songs on Stephen Colbert's iPod?" to "What is a trireme and why do you think they were awesome?" to "What is your favorite type of raw fish?" Anything! Feel free to be amusing or crazy or fannish.

I'll answer at least one of your questions, maybe more, depending on how much time I have.

ETA: Anyone can ask a question. This your first time stopping by, go ahead and ask somthing. Lurkers, go wild. People who've known me since before I could walk, come up with something interesting to ask! Even if you've never commented before, please feel free to ask, since I'm trying to help a stranger get to know me!

11/6/08 02:55 pm - SWAT and Criminal Minds SPOILERS

I was driving home just now and SWAT was doing practice drills on the road to my house. I didn't see the sign saying it was a drill at first, possibly because I was distracted by the fact the men in kevlar were taking a battering ram to the front door of an abandoned house. It was really quite loud and a little bit scary. Otherwise, it pretty much looked like it does on tv, except everyone had a helmet on. I wasn't expecting to see fully armored men with huge guns and a battering ram on my way home from the gym.

Are you awake? IT IS TIME TO VOTE! What else would get me out of bed this early?

I've been watching to much political coverage. I had a nightmare last night. I was on a plane and John McCain was the co-pilot. And I was terrified. The plane never took off, instead we just drive.

Also, If you have to stand in line for more than three hours to vote, leave your name and favorite character here, and I'll either drabble, icon or graphic them for you.
